Mental Health First Aid USA is an 8-hour course that teaches a 5-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources, and knowledge to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, and self-help care. The course teaches the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and, most importantly, teaches individuals how to help someone in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge.
Kansas CIT will be offering these new classes in connection with the International Chiefs of Police One Mind Campaign. For more information about the campaign visit www.theiacp.org/onemindcampaign.
Note: The training is capped at 30 per class and the cost is $50. This training usually costs $170 but is offered at this special rate to law enforcement agencies through a partnership of the Kansas Law Enforcement CIT Council and Johnson County Mental Health.
The training includes a reference manual students will keep as well as a certificate certifying them in Mental Health First Aid.
